How to Calculate Costs
To determine the cost of quilting your project, multiply the length by the width of your quilt to get the total square inches. Then, multiply that number by the quilting charge and, if applicable, the batting charge.
Example:
Quilt size: 60” x 70”
Total area: 60 x 70 = 4,200 square inches
Quilting cost: 4,200 x $0.0175 = $73.50
Additional Services
Machine Sew Binding to Top of Quilt: $0.10 per linear inch
Machine Sew Binding to Top and Back of Quilt: $0.15 per linear inch

Quilt Preparation Checklist
1. Quilt Top
Press Thoroughly: Iron the quilt top to remove wrinkles and creases. Press seams flat to reduce bulk.
Check for Loose Threads: Trim or tuck loose threads, especially on lighter fabrics where they might show through.
Square Up the Quilt: Ensure the edges of the quilt are straight and the corners are 90 degrees.
Check for Secure Seams: Reinforce any seams that might have gaps or are fraying.
2. Backing Fabric
Measure and Cut: The backing fabric should be 4-6 inches larger than the quilt top on all sides.
Press and Prepare: Iron the backing fabric to remove wrinkles and ensure it's smooth.
Seam Orientation (if pieced): If your backing is pieced together, press the seams flat and ensure they are secure and be sure to remove any selvages from the seam.
3. Batting
Choose the Right Size: The batting should also extend 4-6 inches beyond the quilt top on all sides.
Check Quality: Inspect for any thin spots or inconsistencies, especially if using pre-packaged batting.
4. General Preparations
No Pins or Basting: Do not pin, baste, or layer the quilt sandwich; longarmers load each layer separately onto the machine.
Label the Top Edge: If the quilt has a specific orientation (e.g., for directional designs), mark the top edge clearly with a piece of tape or a note.
Bag It Up: Place the quilt top, backing, and batting in a clean bag to protect it from dirt and damage during transport.
5. Communication
Provide Instructions: Write down any specific instructions, such as thread color, quilting pattern preferences, or design motifs.
Share Contact Info: Include your name, phone number, and email so the longarmer can reach you with questions.
